この度、6 月27 日(土)から8 月23 日(日)までの2 ヶ月間、THE NORTH FACE STANDARD 二子玉川にて、カリフォルニア サンフランシスコ在住の版画家/カメラマンである マーク・ジョンセン氏のアートエキシビジョン “U.S. ルート395”を開催致します。山や海から石や流木までを織り交ぜ、雄大でありながら身近にしっかりと存在する自然をモチーフにピースを多く創り出す、素晴らしいアーティストです。“U.S. ルート 395”は、江戸の浮世絵師、歌川広重の東海道五十三次から直接影響を受けた版画作品のシリーズ。このマーク・ジョンセン氏のアートを、より多くの方に観て感じて頂きたく、場を設けさせて頂きました。特別なオリジナルグラフィックT シャツの販売もございます。また、6月28 日(日)にはご本人にティーチして頂くアートワークショップを開催。大人からお子様まで楽しんで頂けると思います。エキシビジョン前日の6 月26 日(金)の夜にはエキシビジョンに際し、ご本人をお迎えしレセプションを行います。ドリンクと軽食をご用意しておりますので、マーク・ジョンセン氏とお話をしながら作品を観ることが出来るこの機会をお見逃しなく、皆様お誘い合わせのうえ是非ご来場下さい。
THE NORTH FACE STANDARD in Futakotamagawa will host an art exhibit of Mark Johnsen, printmaker/photographer from San Francisco, titled “U.S. Route 395” for 2 months starting June 27th (Sat.) through August 23rd (Sun.). Mark is a wonderful artist who creates many pieces, which represent nature that is so significant yet so close to us, by incorporating elements such as mountains, ocean, rocks and driftwood. “U.S. Route 395” is a series of unique prints directly inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige’s Fifty-three stations of the T.kaid..We hope to provide an environment to share this amazing art with as many people as possible. We sell the special graphic T-shirt, too. Art workshop led by Mark Johnsen himself is scheduled on June 28th (Sun.) for guarantee fun for all kids and adults. Opening reception will be held on June 26th (Fri.) and will have drinks and light snacks. Please join us for this party and experience his art together with Mark himself.
US ルート395
US ルート395は、江戸の浮世絵師、歌川広重の東海道五十三次から直接影響を受けた版画作品のシリーズ。 今回の作品の特徴、それはイースタン・シェラネバダ・レンジに沿ってカリフォルニアからカナダまで続くハイウェイの途上幾つかの場所で描かれたこれら作品のスピリットがまさに広重の精神と共にあるともいえるもの。彼はこのルートの中でキャンピングやフィッシングﾞ、そして、地質資料の収集などをしながら過ごしてきた。後にこの場所が彼にとって自然界の魅力を描きたいという強い願いを気づかせる切欠になる場所となった。キラキラ輝く塩水池や広大な砂漠、そして、終わりのない花崗岩のつながりこそ、このハイウェイにおける地形の多様性を表現している。このハイウェイにおけるロードカットポイント即ち切通しはダイナミックに波打つような北アメリカ特有の大地の形状を感じることができる場所である。これらの作品は壮大かつ雄大、そして豪快に亘る伝承の証しである。
U.S. Route 395
U.S. Route 395 is a series of unique prints directly inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige’s Fifty-three stations of the T.kaid.. In the spirit of Hiroshige, the work highlights several stops along a stretch of highway that hugs the Eastern Sierra Mountain Range from California to Canada. Mark Johnsen was raised camping, fishing, and collecting geological samples up and down this route. It was here that his desires of portraying the wonders of the natural world were recognized. Sprinkled with saline lakes, vast deserts, and an endless network of granite ridges the highway is diverse in its geography. The road cut is also home to the highest and lowest points of elevation in North America. The prints that follow are testament to this magnificent stretch of road and the brilliance it conveys.
マーク・ジョンセン
マーク・ジョンセンはカリフォルニア州サンフランシスコ在住。彼の製作に対する熱い姿勢はアメリカ西部の最後の開拓地を記録に残したいという願望からなっている。 2011年カリフォルニア美術大学で写真を専攻、卒業。そして、現在カリフォルニア州バークレーにあるカーラ・デザイン・インスティテュートに勤務し、アーティストとして製作活動を続けている。
Mark Johnsen
Mark Johnsen resides in San Francisco, CA. His work is driven by the desire to document the last open spaces of the American West. He holds a BFA in Photography from California College of the Arts (2011)and is currently an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA.
