Back Stage of " The B"

This is Back stage of the B

これは the B の裏舞台です。
文章は僕の友人、SPTのボス クリスガニー氏より頂戴しました。

1. How many crews and days did you need to create items?

1. For the first 8 days of the build there were 4 SPT crew members and 2
Northstar park builders in snowcats pushing A LOT of snow for the B.
Starting day 9 we had about 5 more workers to help with shaping, shoveling
and other fine-tuning for about 5 more days.
SO total of 13 SPT and Northstar crew for 13 days...13 = Burton!
The hardest part was that it started to rain and the Big B was getting
destroyed right when it was complete! We worked 22 hours a day to keep it
from a total meltdown and then the sun came out and the sessions went down.
It is one of my favorite moments in a career full of really special
projects.

１）あのアイテム達を創るのにどのくらいの人数と日数がかかったの？

着手して最初の8日間はSPTから4人、ノーススターリゾートから2人のビルダーで作業を行ったが、
そのほとんどはこのthe Bのために大量の雪をかき集めることだった。
その後9日目からさらに5人が加わり、ショベリングやシェーピィングなどの細かい調整を5日を費やした。
面白いのは最終的にのべ13人がかりで13日間かかったということ。正に13=Bという訳さ。

作業の中で最も困難を極めたことがあの大きなBの造形。当初、着手したとたんに雨となりBは徹底的に破壊された。撮影当日は日の出ととも溶けはじめるBをセッションが終るまでの間、22時間に渡ってBを守り抜くことになった。今思えば、あれはこの特別なプロジェクトにおいて間違いなく最高の瞬間だったと思う。

2. Where is the "letter" idea come from?

2. The Burton marketing and film team came to me with the idea for building
a huge letter B out of snow for the movie. The only criteria that they had
was that me and the SPT crew come up with as many possible ways to use the
Big B for freestyle. From that point on I designed a few different concepts
to build as many possible features into one huge B. Aaron Dettling helped me
a lot with the final design and then the whole SPT crew had a lot of input
with making it work.

２）どのようにBのアイデアが生まれたの？

巨大Bの造形は元々バートン・マーケティングと撮影チームがこのフィルムのために持ち込んだアイデアで、
彼らの中には僕をはじめSPTのクルーだったらフリースタイルのための巨大Bを実現可能という確信があったみたい。
その点から言えば、僕らがさらに様々なアプローチを考えることで最終的にあの巨大Bの創造性溢れるシーンに結実したとも言えるね。ただAaron Dettlingには本当にお礼を言わなくちゃ。彼は最終的な設計段階において実に様々なアイデアを僕とSPTのクルーに与えてくれたんだ。

3. Also the water on the middle, It's such a finest idea where is it come form?

3. I think it was a collaboration between me, Aaron and Jeremy Jones to
incorporate a "pond skim" into the holes of the Big B. Originally they were
both going to have water, but at the last minute Evan and Lance from Burton
marketing team thought we would add a hot tub (jacuzzi). The top hole in the
Big B actually had a working hot tub (not very hot!) on the first day. It
was a lot of work to get that hot tub up there, but once the riding started
some of the riders wanted to jump through or ride through that area so we
took the hot tub out. I don't think it is seen in the movie, but there are
probably photos of the hot tub up there. Now it is in Aaron's house!

３）あと真ん中の池はどうなっているの？またどうやって素晴らしいアイデアが誕生したの？

あれは僕とAaron、それにJeremy Jonesのコラボレーションによってできたものと言ってもいいと思う。
元々ビックBにはBの文字をより鮮明にするために、穴の部分に2つの池を造る予定ではあったんだけど、
最後の最後にバートン・マーケティングのEvanとLanceが「あの池をそのまま温水ジャグジーにできないか？」
と言い出したので、ひとまず撮影初日にひとつの穴に大きなバスタブをはめ込むことになった。そして、当初はそこにそれほど熱くない温水を満たしてみたんだ。結構大変な仕事だったよ。しかし、一旦ライディングが始まるとライダー達はこぞってその池を飛び越すようになって、結局バスタブは意味がないので取り外すってことになった。おそらく、本編ではジャグジーは登場しないけど、写真かなにかで別に残っているんじゃないかな？
まあ、実際に使ったバスタブは今Aaronの家に置いてあるけどね。
